An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Member of Parliament (MP) from Wajir County has announced his resolve to quit politics ahead of the 2017 General Election.
Speaking on Tuesday during a fund-raising, Tarbaj legislatorย Mohamed Elmi, said that he would retire from politics in 2017.
โI want to show everybody there is life after politics. I believe it is the right time for me to exit the stage and pass the mantle to the young, vibrant and energetic individuals who will pick up from where I have left,โ Elmi was quoted by the Star.
According to Mr Elmi, ย another reason that had contributed to his decision was that politics paid peanuts.
โI have not earned much from politics,โ the lawmaker said.
Local leaders hailed Mr Elmi’s moveย saying it would pave way for other young and energetic leaders to take it up from him and bring new ideas.
Meanwhile, Bomet deputy speaker Joyce Korir has resigned claiming that she wanted to concentrate on ”critical” issues.
Korir also revealed that she would be vying for the Women Representative seat come 2017 elections.
