Liza Mucheru: Kenyan Who Worked with Trump on ‘The Apprentice’

Liza Mucheru is perhaps the only Kenyan who has had the opportunity to closely work with the 45th President of the United States – Donald Trump.

Liza, who is a younger sister to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretaryย Joe Mucheru, participated in the 10th Season of the USA-based television show The Apprentice.

The reality TV show was hosted by Trump and in each season, 16 contestants would compete through completion of business-related tasksย in Trump corporations.

At the end of every week, Trump would drop the weakest contestant with the dramatic phrase, โ€œyou are fired!โ€

When she appeared in 2010, Lizaย managed and coordinated various projects and assignments related to The Trump Organization’s business partners, vendors and promotional guests.

The Kenyan living in the US managed to become a third finalist with the now President-elect describing her as โ€œoutstanding in every way.โ€

Had she won, she would have been provided with a starting contract of ย $250,000 annual salary (Sh25 Million) to independently run one of Trump’s companies.

While announcing her exit from the show, the billionaire businessman turned politician noted that despite being talented, Liza did not get along with her colleagues.

โ€œProbably the person you got along with the best was Donald Trump, because I was always defending you. And yet, week after week, your team was always complaining that you are the weakest player. You will have to learn to get along with people in a better manner,โ€ the showโ€™s host declared before he firedย her from the show.

Liza is currently working for PowerUp – a nonprofit organisation she founded and which strives to raise funds for projects aimed at making educational opportunities accessible to more people through the use of technology.

Her brother Joe worked for Google as the leader of the Sub-Saharan region before President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him to the Cabinet in 2015.

  1. Well he might have fired her, but at least he didn’t deport her! See, what are Kenyans so worried about? Live and let live. Actually, I think they need to take the word ‘trump’ out of the English language since it is just too much of a gambler’s term. Maybe leave it in Las Vegas where ‘anything that happens Vegas stays in Vegas’. Just sayin….
