MP Mary Wambui was given a cold shoulder during the burial ceremony of Mama Lucy Kibaki at Othaya Approved School on Saturday.
Despite being her constituency, Wambui was neither recognized nor given a chance to speak by the master of ceremony, Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe.
The media had difficulties to trace where she was sitting during the burial service as she did not welcome guests in her backyard as expected.
Wambui arrived in the tow of President Uhuru Kenyattaโs convoy but was not allowed near the bereaved, former President Mwai Kibaki.
There were allegations that she had been given strict instructions not to attend the service.
It was not clear whether she was present for the private burial at Kibakiโs Kanyange home since media was not allowed to access the compound.
Wambui was earlier on overcome by emotion after she learned Lucy’s death, even shedding tears publicly as she eulogized the former First Lady’s death as a “huge personal blow”.
The Othaya MP said Lucy “taught her many things, including to be courageous and fight for what is hers”.
“We condole the former President and his family. We pray that they remain strong and know they are not alone during this difficult time. We bid the former First Lady farewell and believe we will meet in heaven,” she said.
