VIDEO: Mzungu Cucu Speaking Perfect Kikuyu In Maryland
Many missionaries who move to Kenya are able to speak Kiswahili. For a missionary to speak Kikuyu, they must have grown up in the 1900. This Kikuyu speaking ladyโs father grew up in Kijabe in the early 1900s. Her family learned Kikuyu from Johannah Nyenjeri, founding Kenyan pastor of Kijabe mission. The early missionaries are the ones who helped translate the Bible into Kikuyu, the old Kikuyu. Kikuyu is a tone language, and to speak it, one must understand where the tone lies! For example, โKahiu ne Kahiu.โย ย These were special kind of foreign missionaries who believed that the tribal people and their language were as important to God as they were. Very Special!
