Mt Kenya business people Announce Waiguru as Uhuru’s Successor

Mt Kenya business people Announce Waiguru as Uhuru’s Successor: A number of businesspeople from Central Kenya, on Monday, announced that Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, was the potential successor toย President Uhuru Kenyatta, as the region’s kingpin.

They also added that Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS),ย Mwangi Kiunjuriย and former Cooperative Development Minister,ย Joseph Nyaga, were highly considered after Waiguru.

โ€œWe know itโ€™s because of the respect they have for the president that they havenโ€™t declared publicly their interest to lead Central region.

“But we are well aware of the political games going on silently among them,โ€ businessmanย Edwin Muchoriย toldย Theย Star, in Thika.

Kiunjuri, Waiguru and Nyaga come from Laikipia, Kirinyaga and Embu counties respectively.

According to Muchori, Kiunjuri had amassed popularity in Laikipia and Nyeri, which was an indication that he would hold a more powerful office in the next government.

Another businessman,ย Gabriel Mwaniki, stated that Waiguru was positioning herself as theย first woman political spokesperson of the region. Mwaniki highlighted that the looming referendum will ensure a 50-50 power-sharing deal between men and women.

“This is the best shot for Waiguru to rise to the position of the Central region leadership. She is the most preferred person who can take up the position of deputy president, should the referendum endorsing for the same pass,” Mwaniki argued.

In a past Team Embrace forum at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Juja, Waiguru stated that women would go full throttle for power.

“We will push for a 50-50 representation, meaning that if the president is a male, we expect the deputy president to be a woman, and if the prime minister will be a woman, we will expect a male to be the deputy,” Waiguru indicated.

However, taking to her Twitter handle on Wednesday, August 28, Waiguru declined the traders’ offer, assuring that she is an ardent supporter of Uhuru.

“There is no gap in Central Kenya leadership and I urge all Mtย Kenya leaders toย rally behind the handshake and Uhuru, who is this region’s kingpin. He supports women empowerment and best represents our interests in leadership and he will ensure our place at the top is secure,” Waiguru played coy.
