Embakasi East MP John Ogutu’s bodyguards were on Saturday arrested in Kayole, Nairobi for allegedly extorting money from arrested suspects .

According to the police, the bodyguards Tobias Omondi and Bob Mosioma apprehended two suspects along Kangundo road on Friday night and demanded money to secure their release.

It is alleged that the officers with the help of a civilian stole a vehicle which they used to transport Gabriel Oduor and Fredrick Owino Ogutu before being stopped by other officers on patrol.

The vehicle’s driver who was also an accomplice in the crime, Michael Onyango is said to have been impersonating a police officer when they were arrested.

Constable Omondi is based at Embakasi Police Station while his colleague Masioma is based at the Police Logistics Centre in Ruaraka.

The officers will be charged with demanding money by menace and being in possession of a stolen vehicle while the civilian will be in court for impersonating a police officer.
